Do you have an idea you’re passionate about or a burning desire to take a thought you’ve had, work it through and achieve practical outcomes?
As part of our commitment to supporting professional development and service improvement within the network, Pinnacle has launched two $10k annual scholarships that will be awarded to a nurse and GP with ideas to improve equity or access issues in primary care.
The scholarships are open to any nurse or GP employed in a Pinnacle practice or by Pinnacle Midlands Health Network. We are looking for people with a clear goal in mind, ideas about how to get there, and how its success can be measured.
Applicants must have the support of their manager or practice owner, and be able to describe how the scholarship money will be used to improve access and equity. The successful recipients will receive coaching and support to ensure their initiative succeeds, and will be expected to commit to sharing their knowledge and supporting others in their learning.
The funding could be used in a variety of ways – for travel to visit and learn from others in an area of excellence; to connect with hard to reach experts; cover the costs of time away from the practice; or otherwise remove roadblocks that stand in the way of pursuing a great idea. The funding is not intended to support research or formal academic study.
Pinnacle nursing director Jan Adams says this is an incredible chance for nurses to make a difference and prepare for the future. “Our nursing strategy is about creating opportunities and giving nurses support they may not have had access to before. We’re investing in our nurses because we know nurses, especially rural, will play a bigger part in service delivery as time goes on.”
Frontline clinicians know all too well the challenges and opportunities present in primary health care.
Medical director Dr Jo Scott-Jones says GPs see first-hand where the gaps in care exist for their community. “We know GPs are well placed to identify and respond to equity and access issues, but often they’re hampered by a lack of time or funding to bring an idea to reality. This scholarship can help with that.”
