At the beginning of the Delta outbreak, the Ministry made a nationwide exemption to the fit testing requirements for general practice and urgent care clinics. The exemption period has now ended for regions in Alert Level 2.
Other than when an exemption is in place, general practices will need to complete and submit a Fit Testing Declaration Form to receive P2/N95 particulate respirators from the Ministry’s PPE Central Supply.
The Declaration Form needs to be authorised by the owner/director/manager/clinical lead on behalf of the organisation and only needs to be completed once. It needs to be sent to the Ministry of Health COVID Supply Chain.
The form asks each general practice to:
If you have any questions, please email Ministry of Health COVID Supply Chain.
Fit testing is required for your staff annually - regardless of Alert Levels.
As per the declaration form, fit testing needs continue to be undertaken in accordance with the AS/NZS 1715:2009 standard for fit testing, including testing any new staff
We suggest you embed a process for this in your practice. We recommend you add fit testing dates to your staff training register, and include a fit testing in your onboarding process.
Practices are strongly encouraged to purchase their own fit testing kit. An example of what to purchase can be found at NZ Safety Blackwoods.
We have a limited amount of test kits for loan use, this is designed to support very small practices. Our loan system cannot cover the entire network so we appreciate your support in this.
We will seek to offer more training in late 2021/early 2022 to ensure you have a fit tester within your practice to support your ongoing requirements.
If your practice has not yet fit tested staff and need assistance please contact your practice development facilitator.
You need to place orders via Ministry's PPE portal online.
We suggest holding enough stock for two weeks and ordering top ups every 2-3 days to keep a constant flow.
