Pinnacle is asking for expressions of interest nominating one person from every Taranaki practice to complete all four steps of fit tester training.
N95 mask tester training will be organised for all localities. Pinnacle is working with the DHBs in Lakes and Tairāwhiti to secure dates. Information regarding these locations will be made available as soon as we have these details.
N95 masks will be an important part of our health and safety response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the event of a return to Level 3 or 4. These need to be properly fit tested to be most valuable.
Practices have asked if Pinnacle can provide training for at least one fit tester in each practice (for smaller practices this resource might be shared). Pinnacle has worked with GPNZ and 3M to provide training for fit testers and to purchase enough Fit Test kits to share between practices.
3M is offering the training free of charge. Pinnacle will provide the Fit Test kits for training purposes. The first in-person training will happen in New Plymouth on Thursday 13 May.
Training is a four step process. You must be available to complete all four steps, in date order, to become certified as a fit tester. If you cannot commit to completing all four steps on the dates below, please do not submit an expression of interest.
Pinnacle is asking for expressions of interest nominating one person from every practice to complete all four steps of fit tester training. This person does not have to be a registered health professional but it would help if they have health provider experience. Please complete this expression of interest by 4pm, Thursday 6 May as participants need organising to begin Step 1 on Friday.
For this initial training we have capacity for 12 people (an additional course is yet to be confirmed).
Successful participants will be notified by email.
All steps must be completed in order. Zoom and video details will be emailed to participants, including any associated documents/reading material.
Step 1: Attend a 1-hour online Zoom basic introduction to respiratory protection and fit testing.
Step 2: Watch a short video about the 3M Fit Test kit.
Step 3: Another 1-hour Zoom training with more detail about the 3M Fit Test kit and a demonstration of the test kit contents.
Step 4: A 2-hour hands-on, in-person training using the 3M Fit Test kit.
The first Pinnacle course of fit tester training was recently held in Hamilton. Eighteen practice staff attended and are now certified as fit testers. Feedback was that the course was very informative with the hands-on step being extremely beneficial.
