Waikato N95 mask fit training

Pinnacle Incorporated | 07/04/2021

Pinnacle is asking for expressions of interest nominating one person from every practice to complete all four steps of fit tester training.

N95 mask tester training will be organised for all localities. Currently tester training is organised for Waikato and we're waiting for confirmed dates for Taranaki. Pinnacle is also working with the DHBs in Lakes and Tairāwhiti. Information regarding each location will be made available as soon as we have these details.

N95 masks will be an important part of our health and safety response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the event of a return to Level 3 or 4. These need to be properly fit tested to be most valuable.

Practices have asked if Pinnacle can provide training for at least one fit tester in each practice (for smaller practices this resource might be shared.) We have worked with GPNZ and 3M to provide training for fit testers and to purchase enough fit test kits to share between practices.

3M is offering the training free of charge. Pinnacle is providing the Fit Test kits free of charge. The first in-person training will happen in Hamilton on Wednesday 28 April.

Expressions of interest

Pinnacle is asking for expressions of interest nominating one person from every practice to complete all four steps of fit tester training. This person does not have to be a registered health professional but it would help if they have health provider experience. Please complete this expression of interest by Friday 9 April as participants need organising to begin Step 1 next week. For this initial training we have capacity for 18 people. Successful participants will be notified by email.

Fit tester training process

All steps must be completed in order. Zoom and video details will be sent to participants.

Step 1: Attend a 1-hour online Zoom basic introduction to respiratory protection and fit testing.

  • When: Tuesday 13 April (12-1pm) or Wednesday 14 April (12-1pm).
  • Group session.
  • Other potential fit testing or interested practice staff can also join this introductory session.

Step 2: Watch a short video about the 3M Fit Test kit.

  • Completed in your own time.
  • It's recommended to watch the video more than once.
  • Other potential fit testing or interested practice staff can also watch this.

Step 3: Another 1-hour Zoom training with more detail about the 3M Fit Test kit.

  • When: Thursday 22 April (12-1pm) or Friday 23 April (12-1pm).

Step 4: A 2-hour hands-on, in-person training using the 3M Fit Test kit.

  • When: Wednesday 28 April (sessions will run 9-11am and 12-2pm).
  • Groups of nine people per session.
  • Must be attended in person at Pinnacle (The River Room, Ground Floor, 711 Victoria Street, Hamilton).
