Taranaki DHB thank everyone for their hard work during the COVID-19 vaccination programme. Everyone working together enabled great numbers to be reached. The impact the pandemic has had on other immunisations has been significant, with the list for childhood immunisation outreach at the longest it has been since 2013.
TDHB has been fortunate to put its provisional vaccinators through the authorised vaccinator course earlier this month. This workforce will help greatly in being able to reach tamariki who are overdue for their immunisations. These vaccinators are now required to be able to do their assessment and for this to happen they need babies and children.
TDHB would like to know if you have the capacity for a DHB vaccinator or two to assist at a childhood immunisation clinic at your practice, where they can be assessed in order to become authorised vaccinators. The whole process is dependent on the individual and the clinic.
This workforce is not replacing the networks already in place for immunisation delivery, and is instead there to support outreach immunisation services, with the possibility of support at GP practices during times of vaccinator sickness to enable vaccination clinics to continue.
If you are interested in supporting these assessments, please contact Jessica Knight, Pinnacle nurse lead or your Pinnacle practice development facilitator.
