New Zealand is one of 194 countries that has signed up to the WHO goal to eliminate hepatitis C by 2030. It is estimated there are 50,000 people in New Zealand with hepatitis C and only just over half of them know they have it.
There are three patient groups.
To support general practice with people that may be lost to follow up, Waikato Hospital laboratory are electronically re-issuing historic hepatitis C results over the next couple of months to Waikato and Lakes DHB general practices.
The result will come into your lab inbox as "Hepatitis C action required". The result will contain some brief information and a suggested action. If the patient is not known to you or has moved on, please email the patient NHI to hepC.Midland@healthshare.co.nz.
Go to Midland Region Community HealthPathways to access the hepatitis C Clinical pathway.
