NZ COVID Tracer celebrated a milestone this week with 2 million registered users. There has been a sharp increase of registrations and daily poster scans since the government announced it was mandatory for all businesses and services to display the NZ COVID Tracer QR Code poster.
The new version of NZ COVID Tracer will be released to the Apple app store and the Google play store on the morning of Thursday 3 September. Most users will install the update overnight on Thursday.
Of significant interest to GP’s is the addition of the “My NHI Number” feature into the app.

The initial key driver for this was to reduce the queues at CBAC’s and reduce the amount of time staff at CBACS need to find NHI numbers for all those needing testing.
They will of course still need to verify it.
The app will give users hints on where to find their NHI, such as:
They will also be stating "If you still can’t find your NHI, check with your general practitioner or pharmacist."
For this reason we've been provided with some extra resources to understand where this feature is in the app.
