Waikato DHB memo
A recent common issue has been brought to our attention by our GP colleagues. This issue occurs when a GP discusses a case with an acute registrar, it is deemed the patient doesn’t need to be seen, but the registrar asks that the GP refer the patient to outpatient clinic.
The patient subsequently gets declined an appointment by triaging SMO as below threshold. This results in frustration because of set expectations.
Directors of Medicine and Surgery have agreed to the following way of dealing with this.
Mr Rowan French, Medical Director of Surgery
Dr Graham Mills, Medical Director of Medical Services
Dr Margaret Fisher, Chief Medical Officer
- Waikato District Health Board.
