Professional supervision short course, places available

In response to the voices of the network captured in the Pinnacle Workforce Survey 2023, Pinnacle would like to offer funded places for registered health professionals from within the network to have a further opportunity to upskill in professional supervision using a strength-based approach. This is not clinical supervision.

What is professional supervision?

Professional supervision is purposeful reflection, which provides the opportunity for practitioners to:

• pause and engage in intentional conversations about professional practice
• build the skills to support others to identify, celebrate and mobilise their strengths
• gain insight into ways of using their extensive practice knowledge and skills, and
• develop and implement strategies and actions that can be applied in practice.

• Since the course we have implemented fortnightly "debrief" session with extended nursing team using some of the skills learnt.
• This is MUCH more useful for me, for the staff I oversee, and patients have already benefitted from this approach- so thank you!

Pinnacle MHN invite you to register your interest by completing and submitting this form by Friday 11 July. As course numbers are limited, we would like to let applicants know the outcome in good time to manage their schedules. 

• The short course will be held at Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato | The University of Waikato.
• Dates: 29, 30 October and 26 November 2025.
• For those living outside Waikato/Coromandel boundaries, we will supplement your travel expenses up to $230.00 (paid to your practice for reimbursement). 
• Requirements to apply for the course:
  • professional registration
  • current Annual Practising Certificate from your registering body
  • confirm with your workplace your availability to attend these course dates.

We will provide ongoing mentoring, peer support, and opportunities for reflective practice to help you to grow in confidence and competence as you begin to offer supervision to others. This wraparound support will ensure the skills gained are embedded into practice and shared across the wider primary care network.

By investing in this training, we aim to build a regional network of health professionals skilled in professional supervision. This will foster a culture of support, reflection, and continuous improvement across our general practices—ultimately enhancing patient outcomes, strengthening whānau trust, and contributing to a more resilient primary care workforce.
