As communicated previously, the Tūwharetoa (Taupō-Tūrangi) and Hauraki localities have been selected as two of nine locality prototypes.
Planning has commenced across both rohe and there’s a real buzz about what this means for local communities. Pinnacle has an important contribution to make in both localities and is collaborating with iwi, DHBs (as they exist in their current form until 1 July 2022) and a range of other community partners. This pānui relates specifically to the Tūwharetoa locality and we will update on progress in the Hauraki locality soon.
Our locality mahi is being led by Katie Latimer, general manager: strategic development, with support from Pen Blackmore (locality lead), and Bevan Bayne (regional services lead).
An interim collective, led by Tūwharetoa iwi, has come together with representatives from the following organisations, to continue the momentum:
While the interim collective has been established, we recognise that it will take a broad membership of providers to make the changes we want to see.
The shared vision of the locality is that the people who live in the rohe (area) of Ngāti Tūwharetoa are:
Strong partnerships and a team-based approach will be key to achieving this. Together, we believe we all have the ability to achieve oranga (wellbeing) in our communities. It is through our collective strengths that we will bring about meaningful and sustainable change for future generations.
A national whakawhanaungatanga (meet and greet) session for the nine collectives was held earlier in May.
Last week, the interim collective met with the purpose of turning the proposal into a work programme, with a focus on system change. This will lay the foundation for meaningful and sustainable improvements in the health and wellbeing for all.
At this stage, the priorities are:
We are in the process of developing a community engagement strategy for the entire locality. This will provide frequent opportunities to share and shape the direction of travel for our locality.
It’s important to us that the voices, ideas, challenges faced, and solutions offered by general practice and primary care are strongly represented through the locality collective in a way that works for our members, practices and teams.
With this in mind, we’d love to hear from our Taupō and Tūrangi colleagues on what works best for you. Here are some ideas on how we might stay connected and ensure that local primary care voices and solutions are captured and brought to the interim collective for consideration.
We suspect that combinations of the options above might work best, but please get in touch with us to share your thoughts on these options or other ways of staying connected.
Regular stories sharing progess and examples of new ways of working will continue to be shared in the locality newsletter and on our website.
Best wishes, Katie, Pen and Bevan.
