Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard 2021 sets the benchmark for safe, consistent, and high-quality health and disability services across Aotearoa New Zealand.
It applies to a broad range of providers, including hospital care, rest homes, residential disability care, fertility services, home and community support, and abortion services.
As required under the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001, the Standard is subject to regular review, and the Ministry of Health is now inviting organisations and individuals to share their feedback as part of the 2026 consultation.
Your feedback will inform a recommendation to the Minister of Health on whether Ngā Paerewa should remain as is, be amended, or be replaced. If changes are needed, a more in-depth consultation process will follow.
Once a final decision is made, the Ministry will communicate the outcome to all stakeholders who submitted feedback. Organisations are asked to submit a single response on their behalf. Take part in the consultation here before 16 March.
For further information about the Standard see the Ministry of Health website, Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard.
