The New Zealand Graduate School of Medicine (NZGSM), at the University of Waikato, is inviting clinicians to apply for a range of newly established leadership roles. As the school builds its foundation team, these positions offer a rare opportunity to contribute directly to the development of Aotearoa New Zealand’s newest medical training pathway.
Roles can be undertaken face-to-face, online, or through a hybrid arrangement, making them accessible to clinicians balancing teaching responsibilities with existing clinical practice. This flexibility is central to NZGSM’s commitment to creating a modern, distributed model of medical education.
NZGSM has already received strong interest both locally and abroad, an encouraging signal as the school begins to shape its academic and clinical leadership. At the same time, the school is particularly focused on ensuring its leadership reflects the breadth of clinical expertise across the motu.
Clinicians who understand the unique needs of Aotearoa’s communities, and who are passionate about strengthening the medical workforce, are encouraged to apply.
Further appointments will be advertised over the coming months. For those interested in medical education, this is an exceptional moment to influence the direction of the school from its very beginning.
Dr Jo Scott-Jones shares his thoughts on the workforce crisis, likening it to the perceived impossibility of the Chernobyl disaster.
