Mental health professional development topic feedback

Waikato | Clinical | 25/03/2025

Later this year, the team at Waikato University Student Health are planning a continuing professional development day for all general practitioners and nurse practitioners, focussed on mental health. They're looking for feedback on topics to cover during this workshop.

Topics for consideration currently include:

  • ADHD:
    • diagnosis
    • non-pharmacological interventions
    • pharmacological therapy.
  • Trauma informed care and PTSD management.
  • Eating disorders, the role of primary care.
  • Depression and anxiety:
    • rational choice in antidepressant prescribing
    • non-pharmacological options for depression and anxiety
    • suicide assessment and intervention.
  • Anti-psychotic medications and metabolic syndrome.
  • Equity in mental health care.

If you have comment and/or critique on this, please contact Steven Lillis, Student Health GP.
