Further to the public health advisory issued on 9 July 2025, NPHS is advising clinicians that there are now 8 cases linked to the Wairarapa measles outbreak. This includes one new case based in the Manawatu. The new cases are all known close contacts of the index case.
One of the new cases had an atypical presentation which means that they may have been infectious (although not symptomatic) for one day before going into quarantine. Although the risk to the wider community is considered low, a small number of new casual contact locations of interest (LOIs) have been identified for Friday 11 July.
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) is asking healthcare professionals to remain vigilant for measles, particularly in anyone who has travelled overseas or was present at a location of interest at the specified time, and to notify their local public health service immediately of all suspected cases.
