The inaugural refugee health scholarship programme has been launched ahead of the 2026 tertiary academic year.
A partnership between the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Te Whatu Ora and the Ministry of Health, the programme aims to improve outcomes for former refugees and their families by supporting workforce development and increasing representation of former refugees in health careers.
The scholarship will prioritise former refugees currently enrolled in community-facing roles and in programmes with identified skill shortages, such as nursing and primary care.
