Ring pessary insertion

This service funds both education and practice costs for the insertion of ring pessaries.

This service is part of the Advanced Primary Options programme.

Your Pinnacle Services Contract applies to this service. By claiming for this service, you have indicated that you have read and agreed to the business rules set out here.

Details

Which practices can claim for this service?

All Pinnacle practices in Waikato region can claim for this service.  

Who is eligible for the service?
  • Patients with documented symptomatic uterovaginal prolapse POP-Q Stage 1-3
  • Patients who have had a gynaecological assessment to exclude pelvic masses.
  • Patients whose contributing lifestyle factors have been addressed.
  • Patients domiciled in Te Whatu Ora Waikato area.  

 Referral for physiotherapy pelvic floor training should also be considered.

Who is excluded under the service?
  • Asymptomatic women.
  • POP-Q Stage 4 where specialist assessment is indicated.
  • Prolapse with voiding dysfunction causing urinary retention.
  • Patients NOT domiciled in the Te Whatu Ora. Waikato district.
  • Patients not eligible to receive New Zealand publicly funded health services.
When is the service complete?
  • The episode of care ends when the outcome and claim are submitted.
  • Payment will be made once an outcome has been lodged for the case.
  • Each insertion will require a new claim.
Claiming guidelines

Please make your claim via Primary Options, select Ring Pessary and then attach the appropriate invoice(s).

Ring pessary consultation: $75

Consultation for insertion/change of pessary. This invoice is a package of care, it includes an allocation for staff time as well as consumables and cannot be claimed along with any other claims. 

Pessaries can be ordered via BPAC - select Enhanced Primary Care: Gynaecology - Ring Pessary Order. The pessaries will be couriered to your practice. 

Ring pessary education: $500

One off payment for education attendance at Ring Pessary Clinic Waikato Hospital for GP/Nurse Practitioner or Practice Nurse. This will involve attendance at an outpatient clinic training day. Bookings for this education can be made via Gynaecology Clinic Waikato Hospital 07 839 8899 ext 96733, or email april.irwin@waikatodhb.health.nz.

What level of clinical notes do I need to submit?

Practices are required to provide sufficiently detailed consultation notes to determine appropriate use of funding.

It has been recommended that in addition to a good assessment and history, the eligibility criteria are clearly stated in the clinical notes.

Does the patient have to pay?

There is no charge to the patient for this service.

How is the service funded?

The service is funded by Te Whatu Ora.
