This service funds both education and practice costs for the insertion of ring pessaries.
This service is part of the Advanced Primary Options programme.
Your Pinnacle Services Contract applies to this service. By claiming for this service, you have indicated that you have read and agreed to the business rules set out here.
This is NOT a clinical guideline.
All practices in the Taranaki region can claim for this service, provided they have suitably trained staff able to perform the required procedure.
This programme is also funded for patients not enrolled in your practice, who may be referred to you via another service/practice. In these cases, you can only invoice for this service and no other off set can be claimed.
If you are not able to provide this procedure for your patients, this care can be provided by another practice in your area. This can be arranged by direct contact between you and the other practice. The practice performing the procedure will invoice Pinnacle directly and there will still be no cost to the patient.
Referral for physiotherapy pelvic floor training should be completed.
Please make your claim via Primary Options, select Ring Pessary and then attach the appropriate invoice.
Ring pessary consultation: $81.37
Consultation for fitting/insertion/change of pessary. This invoice is a package of care, it includes an allocation for staff time as well as consumables and cannot be claimed along with any other claims.

Ring pessary sundries: Variable
To cover the cost of the ring pessary.
Please note this invoice is for an individual patient's pessary and cannot be used for the purchase of a pessary fitting kit or for practice supply of pessaries.
Ring pessary education: $500
One off payment for any clinical member of staff who attends approved education.
Funded training will made available in line with requests from practice staff. Please liaise with Gina Kaye at Pinnacle to assist us in planning appropriate training.
This is claimed via the Primary Options team- please email infoprimaryoptions@pinnacle.health.nz with the details of staff attending training.
Practices are required to provide sufficiently detailed consultation notes to determine appropriate use of funding.
It has been recommended that in addition to a good assessment and history, the eligibility criteria are clearly stated in the clinical notes.
There is no charge to the patient for this service.

This NZCSRH module provides theoretical training for healthcare professionals in the ongoing care and complication management of vaginal ring pessaries.
The Ministry of Health introduced changes to the claiming process for maternity services in November 2021. PMS systems have been updated to reflect these changes and this will go a long way to guide providers to through the new claims available.
