This online series will provide a dedicated forum for practice nurses to access professional development, receive timely network updates, and connect with peers.

Registered nurses, enrolled nurses, and other kaimahi supporting nursing services in general practices are invited to attend.

Held quarterly, online for an hour, these sessions will offer:

  • streamlined communication of key network updates
  • interactive learning and discussion opportunities
  • presentations from guest speakers including clinicians and Pinnacle service representatives.

All sessions will end with an opportunity for pātai (questions).

Session one: 17 February 2026

Network update: Nurse leads (30 minutes)

  • Environment scan: What's on your horizon (15 min)
  • Nurse workforce development (15 min)
    • Education opportunities: preceptorship, wound care, leadership, IV cannulation.
    • RNPCH updates.
    • Graduate RN programme 2026.
    • NCNZ code of conduct (consultation closes 9 March).

Topic: AI tools in clinical practice (30 minutes)
Guest Speaker: Dr Gina Kaye, GP / GP Liaison, Taranaki

  • Available AI tools and their uses.
  • Transcription tools and bots: privacy, consent, accuracy considerations.
  • Implementation ideas for your practice.

Session two: 12 May 2026

  • Feedback from previous session.

Topic: Cervical screening

  • Programme overview.
  • Recall and referral processes.
  • Regional service updates.
  • Understanding the data match report.

Topic: Quality Improvement Programme and Foundation Standard
Guest Speaker: Michelle Bailey

  • QIP overview: year two wrap-up and year three preview.
  • Foundation Standard Assessment 101.

Session four: 27 October 2026

Topic: Newborn enrolment and childhood immunisations
Guest Speakers: Awhina/Chantel and Taranaki Immunisation Improvement Team

  • Newborn enrolment processes and roles.
  • Childhood immunisations: effective strategies, team-based approaches, and referral pathways.

Ngā Manukura is a clinical leadership programme for Māori nurses and midwives. To date, thirty-six cohorts are either in progress or have completed the programme. Enrolments are open for 2026 cohorts, with 25 places available in each, for those who meet the criteria.
