Governance and senior leadership changes at Ventures

Justin Butcher | 25/11/2021

We’re making some changes to the governance structure and senior leadership of Ventures.

Between the pandemic and the health reforms we’re in a changing environment, which naturally encourages us to review our strategy as we prepare for the future.

With these changes we’ll keep building on our successes while also gaining better alignment across all Pinnacle entities. We believe this will help in achieving our vision: to deliver primary care that supports all people to thrive by realising their health and wellbeing potential.

What is changing?

These changes only affect our boards and Ventures senior leadership – no one else is affected.

From 1 January 2022 there will be two key changes.

  1. Ventures and Pinnacle Midlands Health Network will be governed by one board.
  2. One group chief executive will lead both subsidiaries.

These changes have been developed in full partnership with Christine Hall, chief executive of Ventures, as the result of her many strategy discussions with the Ventures board about the organisation’s future direction.

Christine’s role as chief executive of Ventures will be disestablished. The new Ventures senior leadership team will comprise of four operating leaders, who will become part of the broader group leadership structure.

  1. Primary Health Care Ltd (PHCL) general manager – to be recruited.
  2. PHCL medical director - Dr Rebekah Doran.
  3. General manager commercial - Brent Harvey.
  4. Chief digital officer - Will Hughes.

The Ventures senior leadership team will report to the group chief executive. Given Helen Parker is currently on a fixed-term secondment to the health sector reform Transition Unit, I will step in as acting group chief executive until she returns.

As acting group chief executive, I will sit on the Pinnacle Ventures board as an executive director until Helen’s secondment ends. We’ll also recruit some new board members in the first half of 2022 to ensure we have the specialised skills needed to govern our operating entities, such as Health Support Systems Ltd (PAC and indici) and PHCL.

What's next?

Christine will continue to work with the board and management team to bed in these changes over the coming weeks. She officially finishes with us on 31 December.

I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank Christine for her strong vision and her work with the board. These changes reinforce our position as a leader in our industry, while preparing us for the future.
