Te Whatu Ora has updated guidance for administering the Shingrix vaccine. This update addresses potential overfill and differences between the package insert and datasheet.
Please review your current practice to make sure you’re following the new reconstitution and administration steps below.
Reconstituting Shingrix
Withdraw the entire contents of the vial containing the suspension into a syringe with a suitable needle (21G–25G).
Add all contents of the syringe into the vial containing the powder.
Shake gently until the powder is fully dissolved.
Before administering
Draw up 0.5 mL of the reconstituted vaccine and check the dose is correct.
Change the needle.
Administer the full contents of the syringe.
Reminder: The Arexvy vaccine should be administered the same way.
