The SA criteria now means that people must try metformin, empagliflozin and Galvus for at least six months or have a contraindication to these medications prior to starting a GLP1.
If current patients haven’t achieved target using Trulicity – consider switching to empagliflozin.

PHARMAC advised on 18 August 2023 there was a supply shortage of Trulicity™ – a GLP1 agonist. Throughout the Waikato region pharmacies have been forced to put whānau on waiting lists for Trulicity, as they receive limited stock.
There is a need to be proactive in the care of whānau as it is not known how long this situation with Trulicity™ is going to continue. Please encourage whānau who present to your medical centre to consider alternative treatment options.

Trulicity™ shortage
We are unable to supply Trulicity™ today because of an international shortage of this medication. We are unsure when we are going to be able to get it for you.
It is likely to remain difficult to supply until at least the end of the year.
In the meantime, it is important that you keep your blood glucose levels well managed to keep you well and free from the complications of diabetes. With Trulicity™ unavailable it may take a combination of a few different medicines to keep your blood glucose well managed.
