Te Whatu Ora remains committed to increasing the number of doctors in general practice.
They are renewing the community based attachment (CBA) contracts for a period of 2 years when the current contracts expire on 31 January 2024.
Primary Health Organisations, who hold the contracts, will be receiving new letters of agreement for funding in the coming weeks, which will be effective from 1 February 2024.
The scheme provides a fee of $3,600 to general practices for each 3 month CBA placement they host. These placements provide PGY 1 and 2 doctors with valuable experience working in primary care. This experience can also lead to registrars choosing general practice as their vocation.
Where possible, Te Whatu ora encourages targeting general practices in areas that are rural, experience high deprivation, and have high Māori and Pacific populations. This approach seeks to ensure that their equity obligations under the Pae Ora Act and Te Pae Tata are met.
