Further to feedback from last year's Pinnacle workforce survey requesting more education opportunities, we've launched a new fortnightly lunchtime learnings programme.

Showcasing interprofessional collaboration, the sessions feature presenters from various work areas. Recordings of each session are available below, allowing you to catch up or revisit key points at your own pace.

Jessica Knight and Catherine Tobin, Pinnacle nurse leads, present on the Pinnacle New Graduate Programme.

Lunchtime learning | Jude Young

Jude is a registered nurse and IMAC education facilitator, presenting on common questions on immunisation.

Lunchtime learning | Veronique Gibbons

Veronique Gibbons, Pinnacle senior project manager, presents on Point of Care Testing – what it is, the Cyclone Recovery project and establishing good governance.

Prior to joining Pinnacle in February 2023, Veronique was a practice nurse in Auckland and London and has worked in the field of immunisation at the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre (CDCS London) and IMAC. Veronique co-authored the Pinnacle 2023 Workforce Survey with Janet Amey.

Lunchtime learning | Karen Thurston

Exploring the nurse practitioner scope and implementation within Pinnacle's School Based Health Service.

Karen is a nurse practitioner who works within Pinnacle's School Based Health Service. She predominantly works with rangatahi enrolled in alternative education and attending He Puaawai the young parent centre based at Fraser High School in Hamilton. She has a special interest in trauma informed care and neurodiversity and enjoys weaving a holistic approach into her clinical interactions as a mobile health service provider.

The health of te taiao has an undeniable impact on the wellbeing of people we care for in primary health.

Coronial recommendation: Use of Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992 (The Mental Health Act)

Following a recent case, the Ministry of Health is clarifying the use of the Mental Health Act (1992) for frontline doctors and nurse practitioners. This concerns situations where someone may require compulsory assessment and treatment.

Furthermore, the Ministry recommends all frontline doctors and nurse practitioners in the community, rural hospitals and emergency departments, engage with training such as that available via Te Pou on the application of the Mental Health Act.
