Pinnacle nurse lead team

We have three full-time and two part-time staff in the nurse lead space across the Pinnacle network. They work as a team to support over 450 nurses (Waikato, Lakes, Taranaki, Tairāwhiti) with a key focus on growing and supporting our nursing kaimahi (staff).  

Pinnacle has a three-year Nursing Strategy (PDF) which focuses on developing our nurses in their professional journey and working in partnership to achieve Pae Ora. The strategy supports development in nursing, learning and development for professional growth, patient experience, staff experience and quality and safety of patient care. 

Other key areas of focus for nursing include the following. 

• We offer an annual Primary Care Nursing Innovation Award. 
• We support professional development.   
• We support practices with student nurse placements. 
• We focus on a range of projects to support and guide our nurses in practice, such as: 
  • immunisation  
  • screening  
  • diabetes 
  • Power Bi data dashboards  
  • Quality Improvement Programme  
  • Foundation Standard – clinical aspect support and guidance 
  • BPAC changes and innovations working with the teams to be effective and accurate  
  • allied health team triage of referrals  
  • nursing voice on consultation documents.
• Workforce development. 
• Nursing service reviews - service development for nursing and non-clinical roles.
• Co-facilitating peer groups, hosting leadership series, nurse focused forums and social media to keep nurses connected and supported.
• Supporting the Pinnacle graduate nurse programme which partners with the DHB NETP programmes.
• Participating in the Midland Collaborative designated RN (RNPCH) prescriber in community health training programme.
• Participating in the Midland region Mātanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner and nurse prescriber peer groups as co-facilitators.
• Supporting collaboration and sharing knowledge and expertise as members of health provider partner forums to enable equitable, accessible, timely services provided by nurses, to patients and whānau in a culturally responsive way.
• Participating in forums as members to support collaboration and expertise between nursing education and training providers to ensure programmes meet current and future requirements.
